Shannon Dix is a very passionate and creative suit. He began his advertising career at Chris Clarke’s first agency, Pure Creative DMB&B, which was one of the hottest creative shops of its day in Melbourne. His next move took him to another creative agency, Cummins & Partners (now Nitro Cummins). There, he worked across some of the agency’s most award winning creative campaigns for Whiskas, Mars Bar and Starburst. His next move took him to another creative agency, Cummins & Partners (now Nitro Cummins), where he had success across many categories, working with Nestle, Emirates and Primus.
He then headed to Asia where he was asked to set up the Nitro Taipei office, looking after the foundation client, Mars, managing their top brands, Cesar, M&M’s & Dove. After more than a year, he moved across to Shanghai, China, taking up the position of Group Business Director, continuing his long standing relationship with Mars, across China & Hong Kong.
But the call for Australian sun was too great and after several years in Asia, he decided to head back home to undertake a Masters at the University of NSW in Sydney. But if that wasn’t enough, he also worked on one of the biggest brands in the world, McDonald’s at DDB and was part of the team that re-launched several successful campaigns including the 2008 Olympics program and their first brand campaign in over 3 years.
This month on Mad Men of China we interview Shannon, the General Manager of Nitro Shanghai across all brands. He shares with us his journey between Australia and Asia over the years, and what motivated him to make his way back to Shanghai. Based on the recent event that Nitro was acquired by Sapient, Shannon reveals his thought on the reason Sapient purchase Nitro, and what Sapient offer Nitro. Working with 85% of other local employees in his company, does Shannon find challenging to deal with local stuffs and clients? Find out more about how does he gain local insight and connect with Chinese market in today’s iTV-Asia program.
